SQUARE DANCE TO BE HELD The Swannanoa Community Square Dance will be held Thursday, August 7, from 8 -11 p.m. at the Swannanoa Com munity Center. "ARTHRITIS" PROGRAM - AARP "Arthritis" will be the program topic at the monthly meeting of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday morning August 8th, in the Educational Room of the library. Fellowship Hour is 9:30 with refreshments - coffee. The program will include presentation of a film entitled One in Sixteen Million," which emphasizes the importance of proper diagnosis and treatment to minimize arthritic pain and disability. Ms. Nancy Seymour, member of the Board of Directors of the N.C. Arthritis Foundation will present Dr. Jung J.K. Noh, Staff Physiatrist of Thorns Rehabilitation Hospital, Asheville, who will answer questions following the film presentation. ADVANCED RED CROSS FIRST AID AND EMERGENCY CARE COURSE OFFERED The Swannanoa Fire and Rescue Department will be sponsoring an American Red Cross Advanced First Aid and Emergency Care Course with David Bossard, instructor. There will be no charge except buying the American Red Cross Manual. Those interested in saving the lives of their families or others, are urged to attend. Class will begin August 11, at 7:00 p.m., at the fire depart ment, Whitson Avenue, across from Beacon Manufacturing Company. Brevards Final '80 Performances Brevard Music Center's Composer-in-Residence dons his tails and takes to the stage Friday night, August 8. Leo Smit performs his own piano concerto with the Transylvania Symphony at 8:15 p.m. A well respected pianist, as well as composer, Smit's latest album featuring works by Copland, won "album-of-the-month" honors from "High Fidelity-Musical America Magazine." At the Music Center however, Smit is known as much for his wit as for his music. His good humor was most evident during a summer lecture series sporting such titles as "A Musical Beheading" and "Foxes and Hedgehogs." ' Friday night's program also includes symphonic treatments of Schubert's "Overture to Rosamunde" and SatJe's : "Gym nopedies." Nicholas Harsan yi conducts. Victor Herbert's "Naughty Marietta" is scheduled for Saturday night at 8:15. Ticket information may be obtained by calling the BMC Box Office at (704 ) 884-2019. Homecoming The East Black Mountain Free Will Baptist Church will be having 'Homecoming" Sunday, August 10, 1380. There will be regular services, dinner on the grounds, and GOOD GOSPEL SINGING.
